12/3

Steve took me to the symphony last Thursday at the Kennedy Center. Thanks to Rachel for the tickets. It was lovely. We saw a world premiere of a piano concerto by Jennifer Higdon. The pianist was incredible.

I loved watching the conductor, especially when the music got really big and loud, and he started jumping up and down with his arms waving all over the place. I also really loved it when the music was big enough for cymbals. Do you think the cymbalist gets paid less than a violinist?

When I drove the babysitter home that night, she wouldn't let me pay her, even after much urging, because "it's the holidays." She's a pretty special person. It was a special night.

Love your blogs. What is the conductor's name?

The conductor was Andrew Litton. The pianist was a very young Chinese woman named Yuja Wang. The composer of the piano concerto was Jennifer Higdon. I actually wasn't too impressed with the piano concerto as it didn't really have a melody. It kinda sounded like chaos. The pianist, though, was on fire. She was amazing.
