MLK Monday

When Steve came home tonight, we sat down to a dinner of pasta in creamy wild mushroom sauce.   Mi Na became a little more grown up as she sat in her high chair scooted right up to the table, eating from a plate instead of her tray. She very expertly stabbed each piece of pasta with her plastic fork and ate better than her older siblings.  They all start out like this, eating everything you give them, but I have hope that she'll remain my only non-picky eater.

For family home evening, Steve gave the lesson on pre-mortal life and agency.  It was nearly impossible for him to get through the lesson with Stephen and Mei Li interrupting every few seconds with questions and ideas.  I'm so grateful and happy that they have questions and ideas!  They have great little minds.  We read from The Pearl of Great Price and at the mention of Moses, Steve explained that Moses was a great prophet.  Then Mei Li added, "and a great baby," remembering the many times we had shown them the picture of baby Moses in a basket.  I think we'll talk about the rest of the plan of salvation next week.

We didn't do anything special for the holiday.  Mei Li and Stephen did enjoy learning about and reading about Martin Luther King Jr. this weekend.  I thought about him a lot today, even as I read the words of George Albert Smith.  "I would like to say that I have never seen one of my Father's children in my life that I have not realized he was my brother and that God loves every one of his children.  What a happy world it would be if men everywhere recognized their fellowmen as brothers and sisters, and then followed that up by loving their neighbors as themselves."

I don't have anything really profound to say about this, but these words inspired me.  Love has greater power than anything else to change things for the better.  Dr. King understood that and I'm grateful for all that he did for this country.

At bedtime, Stephen and Mi Na wore matching Christmas pajamas.  Mei Li asked specifically for a panda nightgown for Christmas Eve, which she received.  We bought a two-pack of fuzzy Christmas pajamas for Stephen and an identical set for Mi Na.  Stephen wore the blue one and Mi Na the green one on Christmas Eve, but tonight I pulled out Mi Na's blue one to wear.  When Stephen saw her blue pajamas, he put on his.  And when Mei Li saw the two of them matching, she melted into a pile of sorrow on her bed.  She expressed, through tears, her wish to match with her brother and sister every single day.  I was chuckling secretly, but told her I'd look for some matching pajamas for her.  For tonight, she was only mildly satisfied that she had some pink polar bear pajamas to match the polar bears on their pajamas.  What a funny girl.

Now, I am off to watch the second episode in the second season of Downton Abbey with Steve.  Good night!
