The kids and I drove to North Carolina last Wednesday to visit my SIL Annee and her family. I was a little nervous about making the five hour drive by myself, but it wasn't too bad.
As we left our house around 9:45 AM, Mei Li said, "This is like a mom and kids night out!" Stephen and Mi Na fell asleep within the first ten minutes of the drive.
When Mei Li asked for cheese crackers, I grabbed the bag and made a perfect backhanded throw to Stephen's chest, which woke him up. He handed the crackers to Mei Li and then asked for his own. Again, I made a perfect backhanded throw to his chest. I felt pretty awesome about that.
We drove to Richmond and stopped there to have lunch with my friend, Rachel. It was such a nice visit and certainly nicer than stopping at a fast food restaurant. The kids played well together. It was just what we needed before getting back on the road.
I did have to stop once more after several failed attempts to throw string cheese at Stephen. That stop woke Mi Na up, which meant nursing her and getting dinner for the kids at Burger King. Burger King is probably my least favorite of the fast food restaurants so I didn't really eat.
We didn't have to stop again until Annee's place, but I did make a wrong turn which extended my driving time by half an hour or so. We finally made it, and were greeted happily by Annee's family. We ate delicious homemade burgers and fries. The kids stayed up to play for a while and then they went to bed. Annee and I stayed up for a while talking. She is so fun to talk to. Pretty much everything she says is witty and smart.
The Z sister update is on Sarah's blog this week. Check it out.
