After the half marathon, most people stayed another night in Richmond, but we wanted to go home so the kids could participate in the primary program. It was so cute and sweet. Mei Li and Stephen both memorized their speaking parts and delivered the words clearly into the microphone.
During the Sunbeam (Stephen's class) performance of "I Am a Child of God," Stephen covered his eyes with his hands. Steve and I laughed. He gets nervous being in front of lots of people. It turns out that his teacher told him that if he felt shy, he could cover his eyes. I'm glad he found a way to make Stephen comfortable up there. He was awfully cute.
During every other song, Mei Li, independently, did something special. She acted out every word with her hands and arms. At first, her movements were small, but as the program continued, her movements grew larger and more dramatic. Steve and I were in the very back of the chapel, laughing quietly throughout the program. I guess she just can't help herself.
I think it's funny how different these two are from each other. Mei Li seems to prance through life with exuberant and joyful light that doesn't ever seem to dim in unfamiliar or serious surroundings.
Stephen has tons of energy!! He is shy in big, unfamiliar crowds, but he loves one-on-one attention. He is quite charming, and more than a few of my adult friends have declared that they've got crushes on him. He can focus and see tasks through to the end (when he's feeling obedient). He's easily softened with a smile or hug, but if he's up past his bedtime or hungry, watch out!
All my children, though, are smart and spunky. At times, it seems like it would be easier to have more docile children, but probably much more boring. I love spunky.
