Mother's Day 2011

I had a great Mother's Day thanks to my wonderful family.  Never mind the fact that I heard "I quit Mother's Day!" a couple of times from Stephen, once five minutes after he woke up, and once in front of the congregation.  Stephen should never go to bed at 10 PM.  Why haven't we learned our lesson about that?

There were pink roses on my bed when I woke up, I heard many "I love you"s, received many hugs, had French Toast with homemade whipped cream and fresh berries for dinner at my request, and I believe Steve is working hard to finish his handwritten love note as we speak.  I am blessed to be the mother of sweet children and the wife of a good man.  Thank you for making this a special day.

I've been thinking about my own mother all day, and how much I love her.  My love and admiration grows for her each year.  I've told you about her cooking abilities, but the most amazing thing about my mother is her love for others.

I've learned that while my mother works on teeth, she simultaneously builds friendships.  When she's cooking a feast, she is serving the people she loves.  When she's on vacation, she makes friends with all kinds of strangers.

Our modest home in California has an open door to all the ward members, all of my mother's patients, and anyone else who stands in need of a good meal and some good company.  So many have come to a knowledge of the gospel because of my mother's friendship.

Of all the things I am grateful that my mother is, I'm most grateful for her example of loving others, no matter who they are.  Thank you for all you do, Mom.  I sure love you.

Your mom is indeed awesome! I will always remember her ability to almost literally feed an army - I still wish I had those skills. And she taught you well, Ie Li - your family is very lucky to have you :)

Happy Mother's Day!
