What we've been up to

I didn't ever show you how bad Mei Li's hair can look.

This is what Mi Na's hair looks like just out of the bath. I gave Mi Na her first bath yesterday. I think she liked it.

Auntie Ie Ling gave Mi Na her first bow on Friday. Mei Li's first bow was orange too. Mei Li was born in Utah and the nurses gave her a bow an hour after she was born. You gotta love Utah.

Ie Mei and her family rolled into town on Saturday, July 3rd. I am so happy that we have enough room for guests now.

That night, we drove out to the country and saw the fireworks in Lovettsville. It was pretty perfect. The weather was pleasant, there weren't any bugs out, and it wasn't crowded.

Ie Ling, Jonathan, and Ie Ling's friend Barrett took the older kids to the playground while Ie Mei, Brad, Steve, and I relaxed on the blankets.

Mei Li wasn't scared this year like she was last year. Stephen covered his ears most of the time. The fireworks didn't last that long, but it was good enough for us.

On July 4th, we all went to church. We sang "America the Beautiful" as the closing hymn. It's my favorite patriotic song. I love America. What an amazing blessing it is to be a citizen of this great country.

Many people were surprised to see me at church so soon, but I feel really great and I held Mi Na close to protect her from germs.

Oh, I have a new calling! I'm the new assistant librarian and I couldn't be happier. It's my dream job.

Ie Mei and her family plus Ie Ling and Jonathan went on a drive after church while Steve and I prepared dinner. I marinated and shucked and Steve grilled. He grilled brats, hot dogs, portobella mushrooms, and corn. It was all delicious. I'm sad that I don't have any pictures from that day.

Ie Mei and Brad left on Monday, but Ie Ling and Jonathan will be here until the 21st. I am so grateful to have their help.

Lastly, I just need to say that I am really happy. I really don't think life can get any better than this. Perhaps things won't always be so rosy, but for now, I am completely content.

Ie Li -- Happy Birthday tomorrow (I am looking in on your blog and I might not be tomorrow!). You have a beautiful family; Mi Na makes a wonderful addition. Don't overdo it!

We love you, Dad Z.
