Steve ate breakfast with us before work this morning. His departure is a sad time for all of us, but Stephen seems to take it the hardest. Just after Steve left, he said, "I sure miss daddy." I responded, "He's a good daddy, isn't he?" "Yeah, he's a good daddy."
The kids watched a lot of TV this morning while I showered, dressed, made lunches, dressed the kids, and tidied the room in preparation for housekeeping.
I'm really looking forward to the kids having their toys again. They are getting way too much screen time here.
By the time we left the hotel, it was after 12, so we met Steve on his lunch break. He brought us two fruit salad cups. Stephen's favorite thing to eat is fruit. He devoured a whole cup by himself while the rest of us shared the other one.
Steve and I parted ways and I headed to the train station. We took the 1 train to 72nd (one of the few accessible stops) and then walked to the American Museum of Natural History. The 72nd street stop is 10 blocks from the museum so it took me a while to get there at my slow pace.
I was able to get the corporate discount to the butterfly exhibit with Steve's work badge. The guy did give me a hard time because Steve wasn't actually there with me, but he gave me the discount anyway. I felt very blessed.
Mei Li loved the butterfly exhibit. Stephen hated it. He was totally freaked out by all the butterflies flying so close to him. The Blue Morpho butterfly was the star of the show. I don't know the names of any of the other butterflies, but I had to ask about that one because it was so beautiful.
The kids loved the dinosaur bones and all of the other animal exhibits. We did not spend much time in the people exhibits because the kids were scared of the statues or "funny guys." The kids were very well-behaved for the most part, but towards the end, things started to fall apart. I don't blame them. I was hungry and tired too. We stayed until the museum was almost closed.
The kids loved their time at the museum. Mission accomplished.
When our kids are grown, I would like to spend a lot of time in museums with Steve so we can read every single sign. Doesn't that sound lovely? Maybe not more lovely than a trip for two to Bora Bora, but still lovely.
The walk back seemed longer, probably because I was going slower. My body, once again, told me that I was working too hard, which worries me a little.
Steve made it home before me. It's nice for a change to be waited for. We walked to a nearby diner and had breakfast for dinner. It wasn't great, but it was a low-stress and filling meal.
After dinner, we took the kids to Toys R Us for an indoor ferris wheel ride. They made us split up into two gondolas because I was expecting. For some reason, expectant mothers must have one whole side of the gondola to themselves even if they fit just fine in half of a side. I thought that was strange.
Mei Li and I shared the Monopoly gondola while Stephen and Steve shared the Mr. Potato Head gondola. The kids were all smiles throughout the whole ride.
Back home, we bathed the kids, read to them, prayed together, sang songs, and put them to bed. Both fell asleep quickly.
I am exhausted and have no plan for tomorrow. I need to take it easy, whatever I do. Any suggestions?
