In the following list, there are several items that I'm still learning, but that my mother seems to have perfected.
1. To fold dumplings, won tons, and egg rolls. Sitting around our round kitchen table with my mother and two sisters folding Chinese goodies is one of my favorite memories from my childhood home.
2. That I can be happy anytime I choose to be.
3. To trust in the Lord.
4. To love others. My mother has the sweetest smile that makes everyone feel loved. If you've met my mother, surely you know what I'm talking about.
5. That God and family are the most important things in life.
6. To party! My mother hosted and still hosts a huge party every month with tons of food. Sometimes she doesn't even need a reason. She knows how to celebrate life.
7. To live simply. My mother is a great example to me of wanting what she has instead of getting what she wants.
8. That success is up to me. It just takes a lot of hard work. I think up until I was 12, I thought that I just wasn't very smart because I got "satisfactory" marks instead of "excellent" marks. My mother told me I could get good grades if I worked hard enough. She was right.
9. To respect my elders. Whenever we visit California, my mother reminds me to visit all my aunts and uncles to show my respect and love for them.
10. To comfort. This I learned through her service to me in times of sickness and sadness.
I love my mom. The older I get, the more I learn how amazing she is and my love for her continues to grow. I am incredibly lucky.

You are lucky indeed, more like blessed to have such a mother, for your rich heritage, that you have now passed on to your children. What is most marvelous of all, is that she taught you to Love the Lord. Aloha, Aunty Mili

Beautiful list. I see where you learned so many of the qualities to be the wonderful person you are.
By the way, I love the transformation you made to your kitchen. Beautiful.
