I bought nine paint samples today and painted them on the walls of our new place. I hated all but three.
I need to buy paint tomorrow, and I don't have all of my colors chosen.
I'm looking for:
a nice PALE blue or aqua for the kids' rooms
a pale, creamy yellow for hallways, stairways, and basement
and a subtle gray
I like colors that you can barely see, but you can tell that it's not white.
I know that so many of you have wonderful taste and beautiful homes so I would love your input. Let me know if you have used a color that you have loved.
Also, what color do you paint a kitchen when this is your kitchen table?

Since Katie thinks in paint colors, I read her your post. Her favorite yellow is Millet (used in your in-laws home) but Palest Sunset is a good subtle one too. Check out Lingering Blue for the kids's rooms. Tin Man is a good gray. She just used a warmer, taupe gray throughout a new home but can't remember the name. She will have to look it up on her computer. These are Kwal or Columbia paint colors. Lowe's can pull them up on their paint deck too. For some reason, I can't see your kitchen table. Good luck.
In our condo in Oakton, we used Montgomery White by Ben Moore which is a creamy pale yellow. I really liked it. And if all else fails, call Susan Faust. She is a walking encyclopedia of perfect colors. She has a nice grey in her workout room as well I think. Good luck and take a moment to really have fun with it!
Try Columbia Paint Stucco Greige, or Kwal Paint Womb for a nice warm grey. I just did a bedroom in a Parade Home the most gorgeous blue. I can't find it on my spread sheet, so I will look at the can tomorrow and email you the name. Good Luck! Super fun.
Our entry and hallways, living room and June's room and basement are painted pale yellow. We used Benjamin Moore's Windham Cream. In some areas that are more flooded with sunlight (the entry) we cut it to 50%. The Millet Katie suggested for Mom & Dad's place is beautiful and quite a bit warmer - more beigy - than ours.
We used a super pale blue and greenish that I love but when we tried them at Mom & Dad's there just wasn't enough light to make them look like anything. But if you want to try, they are Restoration Hardware's Pale Silver (more greenish) and Dunn Edwards Distant Cloud (more bluish). Scott's parents did Dunn Edwards Distant Horizon in their master bath and it's beautiful. The blue that we put in at Mom & Dad's turned out nice but is much darker. It's a Restoration Hardware color but I can't remember the name. If you're interested I'll try to look it up.
As for the kitchen I love your table and you should really have fun with it. What color are your cabinets? Maybe you could even paint your walls (or maybe just one wall or the small wall spaces around the cabinets) the same bright yellow to tie it in with the table. I think you shouldn't be afraid do to something a little daring. I'm dying to see some "before" pictures to get the overall vision.
Wow! Thank you.
Sarah, our kitchen is kind of lame right now. The cabinets are a yellowy oak I think. I would like white cabinets in the future.
I thought about doing Windham Cream but was afraid that it would be too much for some spaces. So if I went to Benjamin Moore and asked them to cut Windham Cream to 50%, they would do that?
Congrats on the Townhouse, IeLi! I can't wait to see pictures.
You know my mom is a big fan of yellow, I believe her favorite is called "Cheerio." She could help with yellow decisions : ) Wish I was there to help, too!
I think your yellow table would look gorgeous with blue. I see yellow and grey and think it looks chic.
Oh heavens...I am in the same boat and no help at all!
All the suggestions sound great though!!
BTW I would probably do a pale blue or gray with the yellow table, with some red accent pieces somewhere.
Eliza, I just submitted the paint colors yesterday and I am going to go with gray in the kitchen, and hopefully sometime soon I can find some red chairs to go with it.
